The Ventures
With their instrumental surf rock, the guitarists from Tacoma established themselves from 1960 as a fixture in the US and international music scene. The group influenced numerous later bands in the field of instrumental rock with tracks such as "Walk, Don't Run" and their characteristic twang guitar sound. Their influence ranges from early surf sounds to later cover and concept albums.
The Ventures – Sound & Production Style
The band developed their style through the use of Fender guitars, distinctive tremolo effects, and a clearly structured arrangement of lead and rhythm guitar, bass, and drums. Characteristic is the focus on instrumental pieces, often with catchy melodic lines and an emphasis on rhythm. Many albums were produced under the direction of producer Josie Wilson for the label Dolton Records, before more self-produced releases appeared from the 1970s onwards. The Ventures are often regarded as pioneers of the instrumental rock and surf sound.
