The Spotnicks
With instrumentals such as "Amapola", the Swedish band achieved high chart positions across Europe in the 1960s and shaped the guitar sound of that era. The band is known for their space-themed outfits and use of electronic effects, which clearly set them apart from other instrumental groups of the time. The group remained active with changing line-ups until the 1980s.
The Spotnicks – Background & Discography
Founded in 1961 in Gothenburg, The Spotnicks are among the most successful instrumental bands in Europe. Their repertoire mainly includes guitar-based cover versions and original compositions, often with a science fiction theme. Releases appeared on labels including Polydor. Their best-known tracks include "Amapola", "Orange Blossom Special" and "Rocket Man". The combination of surf and rock’n’roll elements, as well as their futuristic image, made the band known outside Sweden as well. Albums and singles were released regularly until the 1980s and are still sought after by collectors today.
