The Alan Parsons Project
With elaborately produced concept albums, this British studio project made a name for itself in the art rock and progressive rock scene from the mid-1970s onwards. The main driving force was sound engineer Alan Parsons, who had previously worked on recordings for Pink Floyd and The Beatles. The stylistic range extends from orchestral arrangements to electronically influenced pop elements.
The Alan Parsons Project – Sound & Production Style
The Alan Parsons Project is characterised by the use of synthesisers, string sections and changing guest vocalists. The albums were mostly recorded at Abbey Road Studios and produced by Alan Parsons together with Eric Woolfson. The focus was on sophisticated songwriting and a clearly structured sound, combining both progressive and pop influences. Releases appeared mainly on the Arista label.
