Steve Winwood
With the song "Higher Love", he achieved international chart success in 1986 and became known for his solo work beyond the British rock and pop scene. Already active in the 1960s as a member of Traffic and later Blind Faith, he established himself as a solo artist from the 1980s onwards. The productions of his solo albums are characterised by a mix of synthesisers, keyboards and soulful vocals.
Steve Winwood – Sound & Production Style
From the early 1980s, Steve Winwood increasingly used electronic instruments, including the Yamaha DX7 and Hammond organ, combined with brass sections and multi-part backing vocals. His best-known solo recordings were produced by Russ Titelman and Winwood himself, mostly for Island Records. Stylistically, his sound ranges between pop, rock, blue-eyed soul and adult-oriented rock, with catchy melodies and complex arrangements at the forefront.

For collectors of 1980s pop and rock productions, the individual titles available in our shop are characteristic of Winwood’s solo phase: The 12-inch maxi Higher Love (12'' Vinyl Maxi) offers an extended club mix version, while the 7-inch singles Valerie (7'' Vinyl) and While you see a chance (7'' Vinyl) are typical examples of Winwood’s radio-friendly pop sound.
