Rick James

With the 7-inch single release of “Super freak (Part 1 & 2)”, special US pressings appeared in the early 1980s that are still sought after by collectors today. Different formats such as 7-inch and 12-inch maxi reflect Rick James’ release strategy, which was specifically aimed at DJs and record collectors. German pressings of individual singles are less common and are listed separately.

Rick James collector’s items & pressings

The focus is on various pressings and editions of his well-known tracks. The 12-inch maxi of “Super freak/ Sweet and sexy thing” offers an extended track selection in addition to the main track, while the German 7-inch edition of “Dance wit' me” was produced as a standalone pressing for the local market. Differences in cover design, label print and matrix numbers are relevant for collectors, especially with international variants. An original pressing can achieve a higher collector’s value depending on its condition and origin.
