Lys Assia
With her victory at the first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956, the Swiss singer became internationally known and helped shape the early phase of European popular entertainment music. In the 1950s and 1960s, she released numerous recordings in several languages, including German, French and Spanish. Her repertoire included both classic Schlager and international chansons.
Lys Assia – Sound & Production Style
Lys Assia’s productions are characterised by orchestral accompaniment and a focus on melodic arrangements, typical of post-war European Schlager. The recordings were mostly made with large studio ensembles under the direction of well-known arrangers of the time. Especially in her Spanish-language recordings, such as on the rare 7'' EP "Cuando muera el verano/ El rio de la luna", the influence of Latin American rhythms can be heard. The productions were released on various labels, including regional pressings.
Lys Assia on vinyl – the key releases
For fans of classic Schlager, the different language versions are of interest, such as the Spanish Cuando muera el verano/ El rio de la luna 7" EP SUNG IN SPANISH (7'' Vinyl), a rare pressing. With Was Kann Schöner Sein (Schellack) and Der Sommer ging vorüber (7'' Vinyl) there are also typical examples of her German-language repertoire from the shellac and early vinyl era.
Collectors interested in international Schlager variants and historical pressings will find specifically sought-after editions among these releases.
