Kansas
With the song “Dust in the Wind”, the US band created one of the best-known acoustic hits in rock history in 1977. Since the 1970s, the group has been known for their mix of progressive rock, classic hard rock and complex arrangements. Their releases gained international attention, particularly through distinctive violin parts and multi-part vocals.
Kansas – Sound & Production Style
Kansas combine elements of progressive rock with influences from hard rock and country. Characteristic features include Robby Steinhardt’s prominent violin, extended keyboard passages and layered vocal arrangements. The productions of the 1970s, mostly released on the Kirshner label, are marked by elaborately arranged instrumental sections and interplay between guitars, synthesisers and classic rock instruments. During this period, the band worked with producer Jeff Glixman, who shaped the detailed nature of the studio recordings.
