Falco
With electronic beats, German-language spoken vocals and an international production team, his singles in the early 1980s shaped the transition from New Wave to pop-rap. The collaboration with producer Robert Ponger and later with the Bolland brothers created a distinctive sound that clearly stands apart from classic NDW productions. Particularly notable is the use of synthesisers, drum machines, and fragments of lyrics in both English and German.
Falco – Sound & Production Style
Falco’s productions are characterised by a mix of electronic elements, funk bass and prominent drum machines. Even on early releases such as “Der Kommissar” and “Maschine brennt”, the synthesiser became the defining instrument. The Bolland & Bolland production from the mid-1980s led to international success and brought a more pop-oriented but still danceable sound. Typical is the combination of German spoken vocals with English choruses and catchy melodies, positioning Falco within the NDW, pop and dance scenes.
Falco on vinyl – the key releases
For genre collectors, international maxis and promos are especially relevant, such as the Rock me Amadeus/ Clinton - Can you feel it 12" Vinyl SPAIN PROMO (12'' Vinyl Maxi), which was released as a promo pressing in Spain. With Maschine brennt 12" Italy (!!) (12'' Vinyl Maxi) there is an example of the Italian scene’s reception of Falco’s early phase. The Junge Roemer/Joven Romano 12" Vinyl SPAIN PROMO (12'' Vinyl Maxi) offers a rare Spanish promo edition with an alternative language version.
