Chilly
With disco productions for Hansa Records, the group established itself in the European dancefloor scene from 1978 onwards. The band, led by producer and composer Bernt Möhrle, became known for its mix of funk, rock elements and electronic arrangements. During the early 1980s, several singles were released, specifically aimed at club use.
Chilly – Sound & Production Style
Chilly combined rhythm-focused basslines with orchestral string sounds and distinctive synthesiser layers. The production blended a classic band line-up – drums, guitar, bass – with electronic effects and late 1970s studio technology. Characteristic are the longer maxi versions, produced for use in discotheques. Releases were mainly through Hansa International, which was known for numerous European disco productions of that era.
Chilly on vinyl – the key releases
For collectors of disco and Euro productions, Chilly’s maxi-singles are typical examples of the sound of the time: The single Friday On My Mind / Get Up And Move (7'' Vinyl) presents the band in the classic single format, while the 12'' maxis Johnny Loves Jenny / Brainstorming (12'' Vinyl Maxi) and For Your Love (12'' Vinyl Maxi) offer the typical extended disco mix.
For genre enthusiasts, these releases are representative of the European disco sound between funk, rock and electronics.
