Vangelis - Antarctica CD JAPAN RED FACE
In depth We took particular care over this item.
Description
The blue obi strip on this CD leads with two dogs, not with the composer: “Taro and Jiro, the miracle dogs who survived!” That is how Polydor sold this film score in Japan in 1983 – music the rest of the world would not get to hear for another five years.
Koreyoshi Kurahara’s “Nankyoku Monogatari” tells the story of Japan’s 1958 Antarctic expedition, which had to leave fifteen sled dogs behind. In January 1959 two of them were found alive. The film became Japan’s most successful domestic picture and held the record for fourteen years, until “Princess Mononoke” came along. Vangelis recorded the music at his Nemo Studios in London – the Greek who had once played in Aphrodite’s Child, won the 1982 Oscar for “Chariots of Fire” and scored Blade Runner that same year.
At first the album stayed in Japan: an LP in July 1983, a CD in November, a worldwide release only in 1988. This is that in-between period in your hands – the Japanese CD numbered 3112-22, with its orange-red printed face and its obi. “Deliverance” belongs to the scene in which Taro and Jiro are found.
Our take: this is a CD for Vangelis collectors who want his film scores in the edition of their country of origin, and for anyone who collects Japanese CDs with obi.
This is a single copy: disc vg+, cover vg+, obi included.
